I've created a guide to install these codecs here:Īs I say though you don't need to install codecs if you are using either the Video Lan or Media foundation path. However you don't need to install klite to get these options. The directshow video path requires codecs to be installed and in my opinion is the best video path to use when you have the correct codecs installed. Whirligig used to require codecs to be installed to play back videos but since then I've integrated both Media foundation (a windows codec pack that's already installed on all windows 8 and 10 systems) and Video Lan ( a built in video pack that is used in VLC). A lot of people find it the easiest way to install all the codecs that are needed although as you mention it can and has caused problems for people.
